Seven out of ten people would support renationalising water, energy and postal services in Britain, a new WeThink poll has revealed.
Pollsters asked British voters for their thoughts on renationalising services after the Labour Party this week hinted it could renationalise Britain’s rail operators if it wins the next election.
Firstly, WeThink asked voters if they’d support renationalising rail operators with 55% saying yes, 15% saying no and 30% saying they didn’t know.
55
Yes to renationalising
15
No to renationalising
30
Don't know
Of the 55% in support, 33% said they would renationalise with no compensation offered to current owners, while 22% said they would compensate current owners.
On other key services, most Brits said they would like to see water, energy and postal services renationalised. But there was a much closer battle on renationalising telecommunications:
ON VOTER INTENTION
Labour’s lead in the weekly voter intention tracker dropped two to 22 points this week, but the biggest headline was on the Prime Minister’s net approval which fell by six to its lowest-ever –30.

52

18

This week’s poll was conducted on 1st - 2nd February 2024, questioned 1,283 people and is weighted to a national representative population.
