Three fifths of British voters don’t think they’ll have enough cash for retirement with nearly half running out of cash before pay day, a new recession-focused WeThink poll has revealed.
Pollsters found 59% of Brits said they are not confident they’ll have enough cash in retirement with 61% saying they worry about money most weeks and 49% saying they are out of funds by their following pay day.
This comes despite a whopping 73% saying they have cut their spending in the last six months and 42% said their outgoings are more than their income. 44% said they don’t feel secure in their jobs.
WeThink conducted the poll following the announcement that the economy shrank by a larger than expected 0.3% between October and December, after it had already contracted between July and September.
WeThink also found that 56% of Brits think Brexit contributed to the recessionary conditions with 30% saying they don’t think it did and 14% said they didn’t know.

ON VOTER INTENTION
After a double by-election win, in which Labour overturned Tory majorities in Wellingborough and Kingswood, the party’s lead in the polls also increased by four to 20 points.
Despite the election defeats and the recession bombshell, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak clawed back more points as his net approval score rose by three to -25.
